Angel Reese demanded a “national apology” from American Eagle Outfitters—and accused actress Sydney Sweeney of cultural appropriation in a jeans ad
This week, a post claiming WNBA star Angel Reese demanded a “national apology” from American Eagle Outfitters—and accused actress Sydney Sweeney of cultural appropriation in a jeans ad—has exploded across X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and beyond.
In what scholars are already calling “The Great Denim Discourse of 2025,” college basketball star and certified Fashion Tunnel Walk Icon Angel Reese has reportedly demanded a national public apology from American Eagle after the brand selected actress Sydney Sweeney to headline its newest campaign instead of her.
The internet has now entered Day Three of chaos.
Reese, who is known for combining perfect layups with even more perfect lash extensions, addressed the nation directly via Instagram Live:
“Jeans were invented by us, for us. It’s a Black legacy. I’m not arguing. American Eagle needs to apologize. Nationally. I want CNN chyrons. I want a town hall.”
Historians everywhere collectively blinked, unsure whether to log off or dig through Smithsonian archives just in case.
