In 2015, four teens in Calgary, Canada—Arnaud Nimenya, Carsyn Wright, James Hielema, and Starlyn Rives-Perez—were skateboarding at Chinook Mall when they saw a distressed girl being carried by a man.
The teens felt something was wrong and decided to follow their instincts. They later discovered the man inappropriately handling the girl in a stairwell. Acting courageously, they intervened, helping the girl and restraining the man until police arrived.
The teens’ actions led to the man’s arrest and a charge of misconduct. In 2016, they were honored at the Calgary Police Chief’s Awards Gala for their bravery. This story is a powerful example of trusting your instincts and stepping up to protect others.
