A recall was initiated for over 150,000 bottles of Berkeley Springs water distributed in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia due to potential contamination.
The recall, which started on September 12, includes product codes 090326, 090426, 090526, and 090626. It was classified as a Class III recall by the FDA on November 8, indicating a low risk of adverse health consequences.
The recall was due to the detection of coliform bacteria, which are generally harmless but indicate compromised water quality. Coliform bacteria are rod-shaped and can be found in soil and the digestive tracts of animals.
Testing for total coliform bacteria is necessary as they are colorless, odorless, and tasteless. These tests help identify harmful organisms that can cause issues like diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and fever.
Consumers are advised to be cautious and consult with healthcare providers if experiencing symptoms after consuming the affected water.
