Emma’s entire life flipped when she spotted her husband Jacob exiting a maternity ward in a sharp suit, holding two babies. Her strong urge to uncover the truth pushed her forward.
The day started like any other. While I was cooking, I reflected on the two pink lines on the test before me. She’s pregnant again. Without even thinking, my hand instinctively went to my belly.
A wave of joy washed over me. Isn’t having children a gift? That was until I learned the shocking truth that made my heart race with anxiety. We needed to find out if this could really happen.
The money I earn as a nanny barely covers groceries, and Jacob already works hard as a cleaner. Our seven-year-old son Tommy needs new shoes, and our car is making strange noises that will cost us dearly to repair. Both issues need urgent attention.
Jacob sat in the living room preparing to put on his boots, feeling overwhelmed by life’s pressures that always seemed to weigh him down.
His voice remained steady during our conversation: “You’re up early,” he remarked next.
“It’s been quite busy,” I replied while trying hard not to lose my smile. “I have to drop Tommy off then head over to the Jenkins’. Those twins are quite demanding.”
He pulled his boots on and nodded slightly while chuckling, “Better than mopping floors,” but his eyes didn’t reflect any real amusement.
To avoid bothering him further, I just nodded back; Jacob always moved heavy loads without complaint—adding more stress wasn’t an option right now.
That day involved taking Tommy to see his grandma before heading for my doctor’s appointment. The clinic was silent except for buzzing lights and an occasional cough echoing softly through the air as I waited impatiently for Dr. Patel with my results.
Then he appeared before me.
At first glance, it felt like something was off; there was no way Jacob could be involved in this situation! Yet there he was walking toward maternity wearing an elegant black suit—a look I’d only seen on TV until now—with two babies wrapped in colorful blankets cradled in his arms which made me feel sick inside.
“Jacob?” My voice trembled as I stood frozen but then grew louder: “Jacob!”
He didn’t even glance back at me!
“Jacob!” What are you doing here? My voice cracked when shouting out again.
