Beloved NBC News reporter Derrick Ward has passed away at the age of 62 due to complications from a recent cardiac arrest, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and friends on Wednesday.
Ward, a longtime correspondent for NBC’s Washington bureau, was remembered for his exceptional storytelling, warmth, and humor.
“Derrick was an inspiration and a cherished member of our family and his hometown community,” said family friend Lydia Sermons in a statement. “As a distinguished journalist, his prolific writing and humor touched countless lives. Our entire family, especially our children, will miss him dearly.”
