What is this great innovation benefiting our daily lives?

The shoe horn, a simple yet effective tool, has a long history dating back to the 15th century. Initially crafted from materials like animal horn, bone, or wood, shoe horns helped people slide their feet into shoes without damaging the heel.

Over time, they evolved with the Industrial Revolution introducing metals like brass and steel, and later plastics in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some decorative versions were even made from silver, showcasing intricate designs.

The primary purpose of a shoe horn is to make putting on shoes easier without bending or damaging the shoe’s structure. It’s especially useful for stiff or narrow shoes.

There are various types, from short, portable versions for travel to long-handled ones designed for those with limited mobility.

Beyond their practical use, antique shoe horns are prized for their craftsmanship and are collected as historical artifacts, reflecting the artistry and functional design of past eras. Today, many still use them daily.
